Statistical-empirical forecasting guidance for the occurrence of fog at Mount Gambier Airport
نویسنده
چکیده
The forecasting problem Mount Gambier Airport, in the southeast of South Australia, is one of the most fog-prone aerodromes in South Australia. At Mount Gambier Airport, the occurrence of fog has greater impact on aviation operations than does any other weather phenomenon. On average, fog occurs at Mount Gambier Airport on about 40 days each year and can occur in any month although the mid-year months are more susceptible. In 1961, there were 96 days when fog was reported. (In that year too, many other locations in southeast Australia, such as Canberra, East Sale, and Launceston, experienced an abnormally high number of fog days.) In May 1991, fog was reported on 14 consecutive days at Mount Gambier. Aust. Met. Mag. 50 (2001) 15-27

متن کاملA Tool for Visualising the output of a DBN for fog forecasting
Fog events occur at Melbourne Airport, Australia, approximately 12 times each year. Unforecast events are costly to the aviation industry, cause disruption and are a safety risk. Thus, there is a need to improve operational fog forecasting. However, fog events are difficult to forecast due to the complexity of the physical processes and the impact of local geography and weather elements. Bayesi...
متن کاملA Modified Fog Detection Algorithm Developed at the Miami Weather Forecast Office
Limited visibility due to fog poses a significant danger to travelers. Accurate fog forecasts provide travelers with ample time to make preparations for low visibility conditions. Previous to this study, the Miami’s NWS Weather Forecast Office used a combination of factors to forecast fog, mainly moisture and wind speeds derived from forecast and observed soundings. However, a quantitative appr...
متن کاملA Statistical Analysis of the Aircraft Landing Process
Managing operations of the aircraft approach process and analyzing runway landing capacity, utilization and related risks require detailed insight into the stochastic characteristics of the process. These characteristics can be represented by probability distributions. The focus of this study is analyzing landings on a runway operating independent of other runways making it as a single runway. ...
متن کاملImplications of Cointegration for Forecasting: A Review and an Empirical Analysis
Cointegration has different theoretical implications for forecasting. Several empirical studies have compared the out of sample forecasting performance of cointegrted VECMs against unrestricted VARs in levels and in differences. The results of these studies have been generally mixed and inconclusive. This paper provides a comprehensive review over the subject, and also examines the effects...
